Riccardo Marino, Patrizio Tomei, Cristiano M. Verrelli, "Induction Motor Control Design"

Riccardo Marino, Patrizio Tomei, Cristiano M. Verrelli, "Induction Motor Control Design" (Repost)
Springer | 2010 | ISBN: 1849962839 | 351 pages | PDF | 10,1 Mb

Nonlinear and Adaptive Control Design for Induction Motors is a unified exposition of the most important steps and concerns in the design of estimation and control algorithms for induction motors. A single notation and modern nonlinear control terminology is used to make the book accessible to readers who are not experts in electric motors at the same time as giving a more theoretical control viewpoint to those who are. In order to increase readability, the book concentrates on the induction motor, eschewing the much more complex and less-well-understood control of asynchronous motors. The concepts of stability and nonlinear control theory are presented in appendices. Important features of the book include: • thorough coverage of speed sensorless control, important for applications; • a wide-ranging discussion of nonlinear adaptive controls containing parameter estimation algorithms; • coverage of the design of adaptive observers and parameter estimators which can complement state feedback design techniques; • comparative simulations of different control algorithms on the same motor to clarify the advantages and drawbacks of each. The content is organized in a pedagogical, progressive exposition starting from basic assumptions, structural properties, modelling, state feedback control and estimation algorithms, and moving on to more complex output feedback control algorithms and modelling for speed sensorless control. Adaptive output feedback controls are based on stator current measurements, both alone and in connection with rotor speed. The induction motor exhibits many typical and unavoidable nonlinear features and so the material presented in this volume will be of value to engineers engaged in the control of electric motors and to a broader audience interested in nonlinear control design.

Chemistry, First Edition, by Julia Burdge has been created to bridge the gap in the McGraw-Hill general chemistry offerings. This textbook offers a clear writing style written with the students in mind. Julia uses her background of teaching hundreds of general chemistry students per year and creates content to offer more detailed explanation on areas where she knows they have problems.

Sitting down with the art house, Julia Burdge worked with the artist to create the style and major art pieces in her text. Out of these discussions, came the creation of the Visualizing Art two-page spreads which detail a process for the students and provide them with the answer to “What is the Point?”.

With outstanding art, a consistent problem-solving approach, interesting applications woven throughout the chapters, and a wide range of end-of-chapter problems, this is a solid first edition text.

Conquering Consumerspace: Marketing Strategies for a Branded World
AMACOM | April 14, 2003 | ISBN-10: 0814407412 | 288 pages | PDF | 1.66 MB

Once upon a time, marketers barraged customers with hard-sell tactics. Today, consumers use products to define themselves and others. People are swayed not by corporate-generated hype, but by consumer-generated buzz. That means companies must shift their focus away from marketing to people and toward marketing with them. In "consumerspace," firms partner with customers to develop brand personalities and create interactive fantasies. The winners understand that we buy products not just because of what they do, but because of what they mean. Market share is out; share of mind is in.

Introduction to Algorithms, Third Edition

Thomas H. Cormen, Charles E. Leiserson, Ronald L. Rivest, Clifford Stein, "Introduction to Algorithms, Third Edition"
Publisher: The M..I..T P-s | 2009 | ISBN: 0262033844 | PDF | 1312 pages | 4.8 MB

Some books on algorithms are rigorous but incomplete; others cover masses of material but lack rigor. Introduction to Algorithms uniquely combines rigor and comprehensiveness. The book covers a broad range of algorithms in depth, yet makes their design and analysis accessible to all levels of readers. Each chapter is relatively self-contained and can be used as a unit of study. The algorithms are described in English and in a pseudocode designed to be readable by anyone who has done a little programming. The explanations have been kept elementary without sacrificing depth of coverage or mathematical rigor.
The first edition became a widely used text in universities worldwide as well as the standard reference for professionals. The second edition featured new chapters on the role of algorithms, probabilistic analysis and randomized algorithms, and linear programming. The third edition has been revised and updated throughout. It includes two completely new chapters, on van Emde Boas trees and multithreaded algorithms, and substantial additions to the chapter on recurrences (now called “Divide-and-Conquer”). It features improved treatment of dynamic programming and greedy algorithms and a new notion of edge-based flow in the material on flow networks. Many new exercises and problems have been added for this edition.

Digital Nets and Sequences: Discrepancy Theory and Quasi-Monte Carlo Integration

Josef Dick, Friedrich Pillichshammer, "Digital Nets and Sequences: Discrepancy Theory and Quasi-Monte Carlo Integration"
Publisher: Ca-dge U-sity Press | 2010 | ISBN: 0521191599 | PDF | 618 pages | 5.1 MB

Indispensable for students, invaluable for researchers, this comprehensive treatment of contemporary quasi-Monte Carlo methods, digital nets and sequences, and discrepancy theory starts from scratch with detailed explanations of the basic concepts and then advances to current methods used in research. As deterministic versions of the Monte Carlo method, quasi-Monte Carlo rules have increased in popularity, with many fruitful applications in mathematical practice. These rules require nodes with good uniform distribution properties, and digital nets and sequences in the sense of Niederreiter are known to be excellent candidates. Besides the classical theory, the book contains chapters on reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and weighted integration, duality theory for digital nets, polynomial lattice rules, the newest constructions by Niederreiter and Xing and many more. The authors present an accessible introduction to the subject based mainly on material taught in undergraduate courses with numerous examples, exercises and illustrations.

The centrality of caries control and management to the dental health of all populations is further emphasized, as the book goes beyond the successful treatment of carious lesions to demonstrate the long-term consequences of the non-operative and therapeutic techniques employed.

Statins: Indications and Uses, Safety and Modes of Action

Gunnar N. Holmqvist, "Statins: Indications and Uses, Safety and Modes of Action"
Publisher: Nova Science Publishers | 2009 | ISBN: 1606921037 | PDF | 205 pages | 1.8 MB

This book focuses on statins which are a relatively new group of drugs used to lower blood cholesterol levels. A high cholesterol level increases a person’s risk of having a heart attack or stroke. The long-term use of statins reduces the risk of such an event and can increase the life expectancy of people with a history of heart disease. The statins work by blocking an enzyme in the body that is involved in the production of LDL cholesterol, especially in the liver. This enzyme is known as HMG coenzyme A reductase. The statins are the most effective group of drugs for lowering the levels of LDL cholesterol in the body. Potential side-effects include muscle cramps and gastrointestinal upsets. These are usually resolved on temporarily lowering the dose. Liver enzyme derangements may occur, which generally return to normal after briefly discontinuing the drug. Some report headaches. Other side-effects occur rarely.

Manufacturing Systems Modeling and Analysis

Manufacturing Systems Modeling and Analysis
Springer; 2nd Edition. edition (1 Nov 2010) | ISBN: 3642166172 | 356 pages | PDF | 3 MB

This text presents the practical application of queueing theory results for the design and analysis of manufacturing and production systems. This textbook makes accessible to undergraduates and beginning graduates many of the seemingly esoteric results of queueing theory. In an effort to apply queueing theory to practical problems, there has been considerable research over the previous few decades in developing reasonable approximations of queueing results. This text takes full advantage of these results and indicates how to apply queueing approximations for the analysis of manufacturing systems. Support is provided through the web site http://msma.tamu.edu. Students will have access to the answers of odd numbered problems and instructors will be provided with a full solutions manual, Excel files when needed for homework, and computer programs using Mathematica that can be used to solve homework and develop additional problems or term projects. In this second edition a separate appendix dealing with some of the basic event-driven simulation concepts has been added. In addition, some of the existing chapter appendices have been expanded to include more information on simulation.

The Radio Sky and How to Observe It (Astronomers' Observing Guides)

Jeff Lashley, "The Radio Sky and How to Observe It (Astronomers' Observing Guides)"
Publisher: S-ger | 2010 | ISBN: 144190882X | PDF | 246 pages | 9.6 MB

Radio astronomy is far from being beyond the scope of amateurs astronomers, and this practical, self-contained guide for the newcomer to practical radio astronomey is an ideal introduction. This guide is a must for anyone who wants to join the growing ranks of 21st Century backyard radio astronomers. The first part of the book pres background material and explains (in a non-mathematical way) our present knowledge of the stronger radio sources – those observable by amateurs – including the Sun, Jupiter, Meteors, Galactic and extra-galactic sources. The second part of the book deals not only with observing, but – assuming no prior technical knowledge of electronics or radio theory – takes the reader step-by-step through the process of building and using a backyard radio telescope. There are complete, detailed plans and construction information for a number of amateur radio telescopes, the simplest of which can be put together and working – using only simple tools – in a weekend. For other instruments, there are full details of circuit-board layouts, components to use and (vitally important in radio astronomy) how to construct antennae for radio astronomy.

The Social Economy: Alternative Ways of Thinking about Capitalism and Welfare

The Social Economy: Alternative Ways of Thinking about Capitalism and Welfare
Zed Books (November 10, 2009) | ISBN: 1848132816 | 288 pages | PDF | 1 MB

This book gathers together material on the social economy from around the world. The Social Economy is a topic of considerable contemporary research and policy interest. From creches to environmental services, from consumer cooperatives to social housing, governments in many countries have begun to introduce legislation to support social enterprises. Taking case studies from Australasia, Europe, North America and Latin America, this book outlines the different ways that the social economy takes place according to locally specific factors. It argues that, against the low expectations of some critics in many countries the case evidence is plentiful that social enterprise work compares favorably with the best experience in the state and private sector.

Parasites: Tales of Humanity's Most Unwelcome Guests

Parasites: Tales of Humanity's Most Unwelcome Guests
University of California Press; 1 edition (August 10, 2010) | ISBN: 0520259386 | 280 pages | PDF | 2.8 MB

As Drisdelle, a clinical parasitologist, shows, human parasites come in many forms and use a panoply of strategies to make a living. As she writes, [H]undreds of species live in human intestines, skin, lungs, muscle, brain, liver, blood, and everywhere else they can find a niche. They can do remarkable damage to every physiological system, leading to death, blindness, and behavioral changes. Drisdelle discusses amoebae, roundworms, tapeworms, mites, and others, often in too much detail. She also examines the historical context in which some parasites have found their way to us and notes their effect on world events, such as the impact Plasmodium falciparum, a protozoa that causes malaria, had on the course of the Vietnam War. She notes that some scholars have even credited malaria with bringing down the Roman Empire.... On the positive side, she demonstrates that, in some cases, with enough political will, dramatic improvements in public health can be made. This is definitely not a book for the squeamish, and readers who lack a special interest in parasites will find it tedious. 29 b&w photos, 2 maps. (June)

Russell L. Colling, Tony W. York, "Hospital and Healthcare Security, Fifth Edition"
Bu-worth-Hein-ann | 2009 | ISBN: 1856176134 | 720 pages | PDF | 28 MB

Concerns about healthcare security have proliferated in recent years, with one recent study reporting that 17% of registered nurses surveyed had been physically attacked at work over a 1-year period. From privacy concerns to the mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to the rapid growth in the number of aging and ailing baby boomers, healthcare has undergone dramatic change, and security in hospitals and other settings must keep pace. Most educators, healthcare executives, and healthcare agencies and associations agree that Hospital and Healthcare Security, a Butterworth-Heinemann classic, has set the standard of care for healthcare security systems and programs.

Hospital and Healthcare Security, 5th Edition, builds on the solid foundation laid down by Russell Colling in the first four editions, covering the shifts that have occurred in healthcare security since the last edition appeared in 2001.
